Windows 7 No Longer Supported

As many of you may already know, Windows 7 is long longer supported after today. This includes security updates and other patches. Windows 7 has been in use for almost 11 years after its first launch in the New York City marketing campaign. “I’m a PC, and Windows 7 was my idea” was the message back then. Which is a clear nod to the failure of Windows Vista.

How Popular was Windows 7?

Windows 7 was so popular that it took Windows 10 nearly four years just to pass it in market share. Even today, there are millions of computers still running Windows 7. In a report from Netmarketshare, the OS still runs on a massive 26% of all computers. Microsoft even spent years trying to get people to upgrade for free.

How does this affect Businesses and Education?

Business and education users will still be able to purchase extended security updates which is a plus. Support for enterprise is roughly $25 per computer, with the cost doubling to $50 per computer in 2021 and jumping to $100 in 2022.
